Barbara Jo Whitney

Barbara Jo Whitney, 71 of Mason City died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center ? North Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials may be given to the Barbara Whitney Memorial Fund. Barbara Jo Hartley was born January 13, 1933 the daughter of John D. and Lora Madge (Garard) Hartley in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Her family moved to Mason City in 1948 and Barbara attended school in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School. She went on to attain her Associates Degree from N.I.A.C.C. Barbara Hartley was united in marriage to Royal C. Whitney on January 13, 1952 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Barbara and Royal are members of the First Christian Church in Mason City. Barbara was in avid gardener and enjoyed canning. She also enjoyed quilting, reading and word games. You could always find her looking out her windows watching the birds and squirrels she fed outside their home. Barbara was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. Those left to cherish her memory are: Husband:Royal C. Whitney of Mason City Son:John M. Whitney and wife Jean of Mason City Granddaughter:Jessica Wiebrand and fiancé John McMahon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Granddaughter:Lora Jo Stearns and fiancé John Gump of Minneapolis, Minnesota Granddaughter:Milissa Whitney of Mason City Great Grandchildren:Eathan and Holland She was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Hartley and Lora Madge Hartley.
