MASON CITY ? Arnold Pergande, 77 of Mason City died following a courageous fight from cancer surrounded by his family at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit on Friday, September 23, 2005. Funeral services for Arnold will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 26, 2005 in the Chapel at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 ? 4th Street SE with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 ? 7 PM on Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue and continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Arnold Pergande Memorial Fund. Arnold Reese Pergande was born November 21, 1927 to Emma Reese and August Pergande in Luverne, Iowa. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1945. Arnold served in the United States Navy on the USS Peadmont. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he farmed near Luverne. Arnold went to California where he served as a decorated Los Angeles Firefighter for twenty years. Arnold was united in marriage to Lucille Johnson on September 3, 1960 and to this union two children were born. Arnold and Lucille moved back to Iowa to retire with their children in 1978. He then worked for UPS and retired following ten years of service. Arnold was a hard worker who enjoyed playing cards, gardening, going to AMPI Creamery, helping his children with all kinds of projects and spending time with his granddaughter Roxann. He enjoyed his many fishing trips with family and friends to Canada and Lake Mille Lacs in Minnesota. Arnold was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to everyone at the Cancer Center for all of their special attention and to the staff at the Hospice of North Iowa for the excellent care he received. Arnold is survived by his loving son, David Pergande of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his daughter, Lonnie Foell and husband Bob of Clear Lake, granddaughter Roxann Foell of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his brother, Merve Pergande of Algona. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, and sister, Frieda Meyers.
