Ardeth A. Barnes

Ardeth A Barnes, 81, of 342 Meadow Lane, died Monday (February 28, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Rev. Donald L. Simmonds officiating. Private family interment services will be in the Alden Township Cemetery, Alden, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. Ardeth was born March 25, 1923 in Hardin County Iowa the daughter of Johan and Dena (Briese) Lettow. She graduated from Alden High School then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Ardeth married Joseph M. Barnes February 19, 1943 in Clayton, Missouri. In 1945, while living in Windsor Heights, Iowa, Ardeth helped establish Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. Because of her efforts, she was awarded a Life Member of the W.M.F. of the American Lutheran Church. The Barnes? moved to Mason City in 1962. Ardeth was active in many civic organizations. She was past president of the YWCA, former Girl Scout Leader, served as co-president of the Parents Committee at Wartburg College and a volunteer at the MacNider Art Museum. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, PEO Chapter DZ, Occident Study Club and the Mason City Country Club. Ardeth enjoyed traveling, cooking and decorating her home. She is survived by her husband, Joseph M. Barnes of Mason City; 2 daughters, Ranae A. Stinson of Mason City, Melinda Barnes Hoke and husband Jared P. Hoke of Marine on St. Croix, MN; grandchildren, Alexander M. Hoke, Evan J. Hoke, Charlotte A. Nielsen; great grandson, Bradley T. Nielsen. Ardeth was preceded in death by her parents.
