Alida Elizabeth Fredricka Baack, 95, of Mason City, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, September 17, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Alida was born November 3, 1916 in Britt, Iowa the daughter of Wilheim Heinrich Christoph and DorotheaWillelmina (Lau) Schubert. She attended Britt High School graduating from Klemme High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in 1936. She then taught school at Britt #5 school. Alida married Howard Charles Baack February 2, 1938. The Baack’s farmed in the Klemme and Mason City area for many years. Alida would later work for SS Kresge Co. Alida was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of ladies circle. She enjoyed crocheting doilies, making her own greeting cards, and baking for her family. Chocolate chip cookies and German pfeffernusse were her specialties. Alida was very proud of her German heritage. Alida is survived by 5 sons and 2 daughters; Gary (Joan) Baack of St. Joseph, Missouri, Harlan (Marjorie)Baack of Mason City, Marijane (George) Hoffman of Surprise, Arizona, Howard Baack Jr. of Dubuque, Marilyn (Bernie) Smith of Mission Viejo, California, Dennis (Cynde) Baack of Greeley, Colorado, and Lonnie (Patricia) Baack of Annandale, Minnesota; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Juanita Schubert of Rockford, brothers-in-law, Dorance (Janet) Baack of Clear Lake, and Gordon Baack of Clear Lake. Alida was preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 daughter-in- law.
