Alroy “Blondie” Hanna, 97, of Mason City, formerly of Woden, IA, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services will be held Monday, February 20, at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woden, IA with Pastor Joshua Underbakke (grandson) and Rev. S. Kim Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. Inurnment will follow in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Woden, IA. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woden, IA, or Hospice of North Iowa.
Alroy was born January 6, 1920 on the family farm, rural Woden, the son of Sylvan and Helene (Holland) Hanna. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School. Alroy married Audrey M. Jarshaw on February 14, 1948 in Forest City, IA. The Hanna’s made their home on the family’s “Century” farm where they raised their family, enjoyed farm life and were members of Grant Lutheran Church. He was employed by Winnebago Industries in Forest City prior to retirement. After retiring, he and Audrey moved to Mason City where they have lived for the past 35 years.
In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course, as well as teaching his kids and grandkids how to fish. He and Audrey were avid Minnesota Twins fans and spent hours watching them. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino. If you ever stopped to visit him, you couldn’t leave without sharing a piece of chocolate. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Audrey of 69 years, Mason City, 3 daughters; Debrah (Mike) Brock, Mason City, Linda (Duane) Jensen, Colorado Springs, CO and Brenda (Phil) Underbakke, Blue Earth, MN, 10 grandchildren; Chris Brock, Jeremy Brock, Adam Brock, Jason Jensen, Jina Jensen, Kelly Becker, Tabitha Beckman, Joshua Underbakke, Alex Hanna and Lauren Hanna, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson joining his family in June.
Alroy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ardith, brother Vance and son Bryan.
